Leeds United may switch focus to a loan signing from Liverpool

The Yorkshire Evening Post understands that Liverpool goalkeeper Adam Bogdan is a potential loan signing for Leeds United in this transfer window. That is if Thomas Christiansen is prepared to let Andy Lonergan depart for Sunderland, who are interested in signing the current second choice at Elland Road.

30-year-old Bogdan himself is well down the pecking order at Anfield, whilst Lonergan is struggling for game time given the run in the side afforded to Felix Wiedwalk, a summer signing from Werder Bremen. Bogdan would surely entertain such a move, just as he did last season when being loaned to Wigan Athletic. Only a serious injury saw that agreement come to an end.

Whilst all of this is still a possibility, Leeds are not necessarily desperate to move Lonergan on. The 34-year-old has enjoyed a run in the team in stages of the season, playing nine times since he rejoined the club last August. However, if Bogdan could be signed, then Chris Coleman may get his man.

Bogdan last played a competitive first-team match back in November 2016. He is however fully-fit again, and Jurgen Klopp would not stand in his way should he wish to move on and get himself some much-needed match fitness. The Hungarian last pulled on the Liverpool jersey was all the way back in May 2016, coming in a 1-1 away draw at West Bromwich Albion, the final day of the 2015/16 Premier League campaign. Could he be soon linking up with Leeds? Time will tell on that front, but nothing is very close to being concluded it would appear.
