Troupee, Leeds United to compete with Serie A teams for signing of Utrecht defender

Leeds United to compete with Serie A teams for signing of Utrecht defender

Leeds United are set to compete with Serie A teams for the signing of Utrecht’s Giovanni Troupee according to a report from Dutch publication De Telegraaf.

The West Yorkshire side are facing problems in their right-back area this month. They have been hit by the blow that Luke Ayling will be out for the rest of the season meaning that Gaetano Berardi is the only senior right-back fit and ready. There are youth players that Leeds could use but it appears that their head coach Thomas Christiansen is reluctant to throw them into the deep end just yet.

And that’s why he is taking a close look at Troupee as he plots a move for him. The 19-year-old defender has already proven himself to be a massive talent despite his age by breaking into the Utrecht first team, already making 36 league appearances for them. He has also been capped by the Netherlands U17s eight times. But now he is attracting attention from teams outside of the Netherlands and it isn’t just Leeds who are looking to snap up this young talent.

There are several teams from Serie A who are also interested in signing Troupee. This report names Sampdoria, Hellas Verona and Benevento are also interested in the young defender and will be competing with Leeds for his signature. Now it will be a battle for Leeds to prove to Troupee that it would be better to continue his development in their renowned academy rather than in Italy with any of these other teams.
