Everton, Newcastle and Brighton are chasing Bristol City defender

Everton are battling Newcastle and Brighton to land Bristol City’s Joe Bryan for £7million, according to Bristol Post.

The Bristol-born defender has been with the Robins for his entire career having come through the youth ranks at Ashton Gate and has gone on to make 212 appearances for his boyhood club.

After a number of impressive performances for the first team in 2014/15, Bryan was named in the PFA League One Team of the Season and earned himself a new deal until 2019.

Bryan continued his excellent displays a tier up and was awarded with the club’s Young Player of the Year award for a second year running in 2015/16.

Bristol City are flying high so far this season and find themselves in the play-off places and Joe Bryan has been a big part of their success.

Chipping in with four goals and two assists from full back and left midfield in all competitions this season his ability to get up and down the flank is apparent.

Everton boss Sam Allardyce is desperate for a left-back this month and is impressed by Bryan, who is one of the heroes of their march to the Carabao Cup semis.

It appears as though Toon owner Mike Ashley has given Rafa Benitez the green light to pursue Bryan, despite the ongoing controversy of his takeover talks with Amanda Stavely.

Brighton are also interested in the defender and City would want around £7million to sanction his sale this month.

But it is Everton who are in need of a left-back as Leighton Baines’ return from injury remains some way off.

Bristol City boss Lee Johnson will be desperate to hold onto Bryan in January despite interest from top flight clubs. Lee Johnson will hope he can make some more signings to bolster their squad as they look to get promoted to the Premier League after their impressive start to the season.
