Wigan Athletic eyeing deals for Blackpool and Coventry City stars

Wigan Athletic are trying to sign Blackpool’s Jimmy Ryan and Coventry City’s Ben Stevenson, according to the Sun journalist Alan Nixon.

The Latics are currently top of League One and look set for an immediate return to the Championship this season under Paul Cook. They have been outstanding so far this campaign but want to add to their squad even further.

Cook will be hoping the signings of Jimmy Ryan and Ben Stevenson will get them over the line and back into the second tier.

Jimmy Ryan, who plays for Wigan’s League One rivals Blackpool, has worked with Cook before at Accrington Stanley and Chesterfield. The 29 year-old is a vastly experienced midfielder in the Football League and has played over 400 games in career.

He started his career at Liverpool before spells at Shrewsbury Town, Accrington Stanley, Scunthorpe United and Chesterfield. He then joined Fleetwood Town in 2015 before joining Blackpool in the summer just gone. He has never been promoted from League One before could be this season if he joins the Latics.

Stevenson, on the other hand, is another target that Wigan are trying to sign as well. The 20 year-old was a product of the Coventry City academy and broken into their first-team. He is being tipped for a big future and would be a good signing for Wigan.

The double signing of Ryan and Stevenson would bolster Wigan’s already strong midfield and would boost their promotion push. Things are looking up for Wigan at the moment under Paul Cook.
