Sunderland to compete with Rangers for Bournemouth midfielder

Sunderland are set to compete with Rangers in an attempt to sign Bournemouth’s Emerson Hyndman on loan according to a report from Chronicle Live.

The 22-year-old midfielder was hoping that this could finally be the year where he broke through into the Bournemouth first team and showed he could be an important player for them. Unfortunately that is yet to happen. He hasn’t made a single appearance for them in the Premier League yet and has only played in cup fixtures, most recently their 3-0 embarrassment at the hands of Sky Bet League One side Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup Third Round Replay.

And so with Bournemouth out of all the cups, it doesn’t look like Hyndman will be getting more first team action meaning that a loan move is needed if he wants to get onto the pitch some more. That’s where Sunderland is hoping to step in, The Black Cats are looking to strengthen their squad during this transfer window after a disastrous first half of the season has seen them being plunged into a battle against relegation. And with Hyndman’s talent plus his experience of relegation battles with Fulham, he could be the ideal man to move to Sunderland.

But the Teesside club will face competition if they want to sign Hyndman. That’s because Rangers are also looking to sign him on loan. The USA international was on loan at Rangers last season, playing well enough to earn their Young Player of the Season Award despite only being there for the second half of the season. Now we will have to wait while Hyndman decides if he wants something new at Sunderland or to return to familiar ground at Rangers.
