Five things we learned about Leeds United after 4-3 Millwall loss

Passion over leadership but that’s not enough

When Leeds United needed passion against Millwall, it was there in spades. When they needed leadership and decision making…well it was absent. On the former, head coach Thomas Christiansen said that Leeds United often shoot themselves in the foot with sendings off, joking that maybe next game tactic will be to start with just ten players on the pitch.

Decision-making and leadership were rightly criticised by commentator Noel Whelan who, as usual, hit the nail on the head with his comments during the game. Speaking about the raft of free headers that Millwall were getting, Whelan asked why players on the field weren’t making decisions about placement of markers at set pieces. time and time again full-backs Laurens De Bock and Gaetano Berardi were isolated against bigger attackers, Whelan asking why someone like Pontus Jansson wasn’t taking command and changing things on the fly.
