Norwich City set to miss out on January transfer target

Voetbal International understands that ADO Den Haag right back Tyronne Ebuehi, a transfer target for Sky Bet Championship side Norwich City, is primed to join Portuguese giants Benfica. Canaries boss Daniel Farke is looking to boost his squad in the January transfer window.

Many players have been linked with a move to Carrow Road this month, especially in the wake of Alex Pritchard’s departure to Huddersfield Town for a big fee. With their seemingly money to spend, Norwich are looking to spend it wisely as they try to mount a late push for the play-offs.

Record believes that Benfica are primed to sign the player, but could instantly loan him back to the Eredivisie side for the remainder of the campaign. This is due to a FIFA ruling that prevents players signing a pre-contract agreement elsewhere when aged under 23. Ebuehi is 22.

Ebuehi played for Nigeria in a recent international friendly victory over Argentina, appearing in the second half. He is keen to play regularly in the build-up to the World Cup, where he hopes to get a spot in the roster.

Farke spoke recently after the Ebuehi link, and did acknowledge he wants new faces, and right back is likely to be an area he addresses,

“When we spoke about the Den Haag guy it is well known he plays right full back and that is something we have to think about longer term in this position.

“If Russ Martin leaves the club, who at the moment is the only option to replace Ivo Pinto in the side, then we need another option.”

Club captain Martin has been heavily linked with a move this month after a frustrating time at the club this season, where he has barely featured. Rangers have been linked with the player.
