LOAN DEAL: Dutch move for Derby midfielder

Derby County Under 23s midfielder Emil Jakobsen has moved to Dutch Eredivisie side VVV Venlo on loan until the end of the 2017/18 season.

The Danish midfielder is yet to taste senior football, having spent the last few seasons with the Rams’ academy.

The 19-year-old signed for Derby in 2015 from Danish side Randers FC.

Since making his debut for the Under 23s in August 2016, Jakbosen has featured 29 times in the Premier League 2 and the EFL Trophy combined.

In that time, he has scored seven times and provided four assists for Darren Wassall’s team.

Jakobsen featured nine times in the first half of this season, scoring against both Arsenal and Manchester City prior to the league’s winter break.

The former Randers academy midfielder featured as a substitute during the Under 23s’ most recent match on Sunday afternoon, where the Rams lost 2-1 at the Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground.

The teenager has represented his native Denmark at Under 16,18 and 19 levels, with his sole international goal coming against Austria’s Under 16s on his international debut in October 2013.

Venlo are currently tenth in the Eredivisie table, just two points behind the play-off places for the final Europa League Qualification place.

The Good Old ended their 2017 on a high in the league with victories over Roda JC and Heracles Almelo in their final two league games of the calendar year.

Unfortunately, Jakobsen’s new side crashed out of the KNVB Cup in their final away match of the year, after suffering a 4-1 defeat at the hands of PSV Eindhoven.

The Yellow Black Army are next in action on Saturday 20th January against Ado Den Haag in the league, where their new signing Jakobsen could make his debut in senior football.
