Scottish side interested in Norwich and Scotland striker

Scottish Premiership side Hearts have contacted Norwich City about taking striker Steven Naismith north of the border, according to BBC Sport.

The 31-year-old goalscorer still has 18 months remaining on his contract at Carrow Road, however the Scotish international front-man has failed to feature for the Canaries since August and has been told he can leave the Norfolk side.

Naismith himself has not yet spoken to Hearts, however reports suggest that he is due to make a decision over a potential move to Tynecastle in the coming days as his future hangs on a thread in-front of him due to the Sky Bet Championship side wanting to offload their £50,000-per-week forward.

The experienced striker is expected – should he depart Carrow Road this month – to leave the Norfolk side this month however it would only be a loan move before a decision about his long-term future is made in the summer.

Naismith won 45 international caps for Scotland and has also been linked with moves to his two former clubs, Kilmarnock and Rangers, while a number of Norwich’s Sky Bet Championship rivals are rumoured to be lining up an approach for the former Everton front-man.

An ankle injury picked up in training earlier this season damaged Naismith’s playing time, however having returned to full fitness the 31-year-old has still played only three times for the Canaries this term.

Naismith signed for the Canaries in a £8.5m deal in January 2016 but could not stop Alex Neil’s side being releagated from the Premier League, however the striker is no longer in boss Daniel Farkes plans for the remainder of the Scotsman’s 18-month contract.
