PREVIEW: Wolves looking to extend the gap at Barnsley

Wolves will be looking to extend their lead at the top of the Sky Bet Championship when they travel to Barnsley.

Wolves are sat top of the table, having accumulated 61 points in their 26 games thus far. Nuno’s side are just 12 points ahead of second placed Derby County, as well as inside the automatic promotion places by 14 points.

Barnsley are sat in 19th currently, but are just two points ahead of the relegation zone as Paul Heckingbottom looks to secure a third season of football at this level for the Tykes.

In fact, Heckingbottom’s men come into this game undefeated in their last three in the league. Back to back home draws with Preston and Reading was followed by a rare away success.

2018 was started in the right way by the Tykes as they beat Sunderland by a goal to nil at the Stadium of Light. Former Forest Green Rovers centre back Ethan Pinnock netted his second goal in as many games as they collected a rare three points on the road.

It is clear to see where Barnsley’s priorities lie as they were knocked out of the FA Cup last weekend by fellow SkyBet Championship side Millwall. A 4-1 defeat saw the Tykes crash out of the domestic cup.

Barnsley will have new man Keiffer Moore available for selection after they signed the striker from Ipwsich on a three-and-a-half year deal.

Wolves come into the game in incredible form having won seven points in their last three games in the Championship.

A draw with Millwall at the Den was followed by a late win over then second placed Bristol City.

Nuno’s men then put Brentford to the sword with a 3-0 comfortable win at Molineux. Ruben Neves, Barry Douglas and Diogo Jota netted to take a step closer back to the Premier League.

When these two met back in September, there were goals galore in the last ten minutes. Bright Enobakhare put Wolves in charge with ten minutes to go.

Adam Jackson looked to have earned the away side a point when he stroked home in the 91st minute of the game. But, substitute Alfred N’Diaye had other ideas as he slammed home in the 93rd minute to grab all the points.
