Fulham set to complete loan move for Premier League full-back

Fulham look set to complete the loan signing of Southampton youngster Matt Targett until the end of the season.

The England Under-21 international has only played for the Saints twice this season as Mauricio Pellegrino appears to favour Sam McQueen as cover for Ryan Bertrand.

It is believed that Cottagers boss Slavisa Jokanovic is looking for cover at left back, despite the sparkling form of star man Ryan Sessegnon.

17-year-old Sessegnon is attracting interest of his own, with Spurs believed to be winning the race for his signature despite apparent interest from European champions Real Madrid.

Targett picked up an injury at the start of the current season but has made his only Premier League appearances of the season over the Christmas period.

A loan move to last season’s play-off semi finalists could well be on the cards for Targett as he looks to stake a claim for a place in Pellegrino’s side next season.

Fulham are currently sat in 10th in the Sky Bet Championship, just three points behind 7th placed Sheffield United, who are knocking on the door of sixth-place and the play-off places.

Targett broke onto the Premier League scene back in 2014/2015 as he made 12 appearances for the Saints in an impressive first campaign.

Former Saints boss Ronald Koeman praised Targett after his debut season, saying he was impressed with the youngster’s attitude:

“I was very happy with the way Targett trained and played in the under-21s. He’s a young player and it’s difficult for him because in front of him is an England international.”

The academy graduate even went on to pick up the Southampton ‘Young Player of the Year Award’, thus becoming another exciting prospect to come out of the club’s academy.
