Bristol City snap up young Everton midfielder

Bristol City have announced the signing of Everton youngster Liam Walsh for an undisclosed fee.

Walsh came through the ranks at Everton without making a first team appearance for the blue half of Merseyside.

The young midfielder was sent on an initial one month loan to Yeovil Town back in January 2016. The following season, Walsh was loaned out to SkyBet Championship side Birmingham City until January 2017.

Walsh signs a two and a half year deal at Ashton Gate and will vacate the number 12 shirt for the Robins.

Manager Lee Johnson spoke to the club’s website about his new acquisition:

“I think Liam gives us something slightly different to what we have already and adds to the qualities we already have in midfield.

“He loves getting on the ball and is a very good passer with both his left and right foot.

“He’s done very well on loan at Yeovil Town previously and I’ve tracked him for some time.

“He’s a brilliant player, who can come in and compete immediately. Hopefully he can improve and he improves us.”

The midfielder has represented his country at both U16 and U18 level with his last international appearance coming in 2015.

Walsh spoke to the club’s website about his newest move:

“It’s a good upcoming club and obviously flying at the minute. We’ve got a great manager who’s well noticed. The club will suit me and my style of play. I can’t wait to get started.

“The time was right to leave Everton, I didn’t feel like I was going to get any game time there as there was a lot of players ahead of me. When I found out Bristol wanted me I thought it was a perfect move for me.

“He wants me to come in and hit the ground running. I know what he wants from me. 100% in every game. He’ll want me to be working hard like all the other players and win games.

“I’ve watched a few Bristol games and the fans were quality as well and I can’t wait to perform in front of them.”
