FA CUP PREVIEW: Vardy makes Fleetwood return

Fleetwood Town play host to former Premier League champions Leicester City and former player Jamie Vardy in the FA Cup 3rd Round tomorrow.

Vardy played for the Cod Army during the 2011/2012 season, firing Fleetwood to the National League title. The England international scored 34 goals in 42 games which earned him a move to SkyBet Championship side Leicester City.

Since his move to the King Power, Vardy helped fire the Foxes to a Premier League title as well as playing a part in England’s 2016 European Championship squad.

Fleetwood are currently sat in 12th in SkyBet League One, eight points behind sixth placed Portsmouth who occupy the final play-off spot.

Fleetwood are in good form coming into the tie having won two of their last three games. Wins over Bury and Oldham Athletic were followed by a 2-1 loss to Bradford City.

Jack Sowerby put the Cod Army in front but goals from Alex Gilliead and Shay McCartan secured the goals for the Banthams.

Fleetwood were forced to a replay when they came up against Hereford in the 2nd round. A 2-0 win in the replay at Edgar Street with a brace from Cian Bolger set up a tie with Premier League Leicester.

The Foxes are currently sat 8th in the Premier League under new manager Claude Puel.

Leicester have lost two of their last three but picked up a 3-0 win in their first game of 2018 against Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town.

Riyad Mahrez, Islam Slimani and Marc Albrighton scored the goals to give the former champions all three points.

Foxes striker Vardy may be a doubt for his return to Highbury as he is suffering from an occurring groin problem.
