FA Cup Preview: Exeter to play Premier League side

Exeter City will entertain Premier League side West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup 3rd round this weekend.

Exeter are occupying the final play-off position in SkyBet League Two but do have a game in hand over the majority of the sides in the play-off places.

The Grecians come into the tie in inconsistent form having only picked up three points from their last three games.

A win over Barnet in their last game of 2017 was sandwiched in between defeats to strugglers Yeovil Town and Newport County.

Irishman Padriag Amond put the Exiles ahead at Rodney Parade before Jayden Stockley equalised for the away side.

Robbie Willmott went on to score the winner and wrap up all the points for Paul Tisdale’s side.

Exeter faced fellow SkyBet League Two side Forest Green Rovers in the 2nd round. They needed a replay at St James’ Park to defeat the division’s bottom club.

Jayden Stockley scored in the 115th minute to ensure that a tie with Premier League opposition was set up in the 3rd round.

Exeter may be without top scorer Stockley who broke his nose in the New Years defeat to Newport County. Jordan Moore-Taylor may also miss out with a muscular injury.

West Bromiwch Albion are struggling in the Premier League after sacking current Middlesborough boss Tony Pulis. Alan Pardew took the hot seat at the Hawthorns but has struggled to move them out of the bottom three.

Albion are sat in 19th place and are four points behind 17th placed Southampton. They are also sat level on points with bottom club Swansea City.

Alan Pardew’s side were seconds away from earning a hard earned point at the London Stadium in a disappointing 2-1 defeat to West Ham United.

James McClean’s strike put Albion a goal to the good until target man Andy Carroll scored a brace, including a 94th minute winner.

Matt Phillips and Craig Dawson are both missing for West Brom. Nacer Chadli and James Morrison are also out as they recover from their injuries.
