NEWS: Wolves midfielder returns to former club

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Prince Oniangue has returned to Ligue 1 side Angers SCO on loan until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old spent the entirety of the 2009/10 campaign on loan at the French side from Stade Rennais, where he scored once in 31 appearances for the then second-tier outfit.

Oniangue moved to Wolverhampton in August 2016 from Stade de Reims, but only stayed in the West Midlands for the first half of last season.

The Congolese international spent the remainder of the 2016/17 campaign on loan with French first division side SC Bastia, playing 15 times and scoring three goals.

However, since Nuno Espírito Santo took charge of the Old Gold, Oniangue has been frozen out of the first team picture, especially after the arrivals of central midfielders Rúben Neves and Alfred N’Diaye.

In fact, Oniangue has not even played a minute of first team football this season and he has only featured twice for Wolves’ Under 23s this season, both of which came in defeats against Aston Villa and Middlesbrough respectively.

The midfielder is an internationally experienced player, who has played 39 times for his native Congo and scored seven goals.

He has captained his nation 14 times, which has included all of the Red Devils’ matches during the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Angers are currently in 19th position in the Ligue 1 table, a point away from safety.

Les Scoïstes are next in league action on Sunday 14th January, where they face a tricky away fixture against Olympique Lyonnais; Oniangue could play his first game in his second spell with the club that day.
