Port Vale set to extend loan of star man

Port Vale look set to extend the loan of AFC Bournemouth midfielder Ben Whitfield until the end of the season.

According to reports, Vale had faced competition to keep their star man from promotion chasing Lincoln City. However, Whitfield looks set to complete the season with Vale having impressed at Vale Park.

It is believed that Danny Cowley had been watching the midfielder in recent weeks, and was hoping to lure him to Sincil Bank to help the Imps’ play-off charge.

Whitfield impressed heavily in Vale’s thumping of league leaders Luton Town in their final fixture of 2017 as he scored his third of the season.

The creative midfielder also has two assists two his name but has been a stand-out player for Neil Aspin’s side so far this season.

Vale boss Aspin is desperate to extend the youngster’s loan, he spoke to the Stoke Sentinel about the move:

“With Ben Whitfield, I spoke to him yesterday and we are waiting for Bournemouth to have their meeting which should be today. So, I am hopeful that I get a bit of news in the next couple of days.

“I think when you are trying to sign any player it is frustrating because it is not something that just happens overnight. There are a lot of considerations that have to be weighed up by the players as well.”
