Wolves fight Real Madrid for striker signature – ready to outbid

Championship leaders, many would say champions-elect, Wolves are ready to hijack Real Madrid’s bargain buy capture of Rafa Mir according to the Express & Star.

It was being widely reported that Los Blancos would land 24-year-old Valencia striker for a bargain £444,000 transfer fee between the two La Liga clubs. However, the Express & Star say that Wolves have stolen a march on world football power Real Madrid and entered a £1.5 million bid of their own.

The Express & Star say that a deal has been struck with Valencia and the 20-year-old Mir is “poised to sign a four-year contract” at Molineux.

Mir has been at Valencia for six year in total, moving up through the youth set up and graduating into their B-side set-up at the start of last season. The youngster has only featured eight time for the first team over all competitions, including two appearances in La Liga.

However, it is his form this season that will have caught Wolves’ eyes, eyes made keener in that their head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, used to manage Mir at Valencia. His form this season for Valencia’s B-side is a return of 15 goals in 19 games, the goals coming at the rate of one per 108 minutes.

It is these headline figures that have caused Wolves to swoop in and, according to the Express & Star, “land their first signing of the window.”

Should this be the case, it would be a brave man who bets against the Black Country side improving over the second stretch of the 2017/18 season and going up as champions.
