Former Aston Villa and Wolves boss linked with Owls vacancy

Former Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Paul Lambert is being linked with the managerial vacancy at fellow Sky Bet Championship club Sheffield Wednesday according to the latest odds from English Football League sponsors Sky Bet.

The 48-year-old Glasgow born boss has been out of work since leaving Wolves by mutual consent at the end of last season following a review of the club’s footballing structure.

Lambert has been linked with a return to management throughout the season so far and English Football League sponsors Sky Bet have the former Borussia Dortmund and Celtic midfielder listed as the current odds-on favourite for the managerial vacancy at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls are searching for a new boss after sacking head coach Carlos Carvalhal before Christmas following a poor run of form. Several names have been linked with the role with former Villa and Wolves boss Lambert being the latest.

Lambert started his managerial career north of the border with Livingston before going on to enjoy impressive spells in the English game with both Wycombe Wanderers and Colchester United. The Scot’s greatest success came at Norwich City where he guided the Norfolk club from Sky Bet League One to the English Premier League in just two seasons.

Since leaving Carrow Road, Lambert has worked under difficult conditions at Aston Villa and Blackburn Rovers and was particularly successful during his short spell with the latter, before wining 42.4% of matches in charge of latest club Wolves.

Lambert is arguably most at home managing in the Sky Bet Championship and with a decent budget could produce the goods at that level of football.
