PREVIEW: Cambridge looking for back to back wins

Cambridge United will be looking to make it three wins in three over the festive period when they face Colchester United.

The visitors are currently sat in 12th place but are just four points away from the last play-off position which is held by Accrington Stanley.

Colchester will be looking to bounce themselves back into the top seven having dropped back out of them on Saturday.

Cambridge got off to the best start possible in their SkyBet League Two fixture with Crewe Alexandra after George Maris netted in just 34 seconds. The former Barnsley man’s second goal in as many games.

David Amoo and Uche Ikpeazu also scored to secure the points for Shaun Derry’s men. Dave Artell’s side were able to give themselves a lifeline when captain Chris Dagnall struck home to increase home supporters’ nerves.

Former Carlisle man Jabo Ibhere was sent off late into stoppage time but by that point, the U’s were home and dry with another three points in the bag.

Colchester’s promising form stuttered this weekend as they were held to a goaless draw by Jack Lester’s Chesterfield.

Colchester had begun the day in the play-offs but were left to pay the price for not taking their chances and slipped back down to 8th place.

In-form Sammie Szmodics came closest for the visitors but his effort was smothered by goalkeeper Jake Eastwood.

Shaun Derry’s men were able to get the better of their counterparts when the pair met at the Abbey Stadium earlier in the season.

Another goal from front man Uche Ikpeazu secured the points for the home side.
