Sacked Sheffield Wednesday manager becomes new Swansea City head coach

Sacked Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal has become the new manager of Swansea City as confirmed by their club website.

Carvalhal has only been out of a job for a few days after being relieved of his duties at the Owls on Christmas Eve following a poor run of form which saw them miles off the pace in the race for promotion from the Sky Bet Championship. But he had done well before this season at Wednesday, guiding them to the play-offs in both of his full seasons at Hillsborough.

And now he has got a tough task as he is being trusted to try and save Swansea from relegation. They sacked previous head coach Paul Clement after they dropped to the bottom of the Premier League and will need a massive turnaround if they want to stay in the top tier. They are now hoping that with half of the season to go that Carvalhal can be the man to save them.

For Wednesday fans, it might be quite amusing to see someone who has been on his last legs at the club for a while suddenly jump up to the Premier League. Carvalhal had sometimes been linked with a move to the top to the Premier League but those reports have disappeared as his plans with Wednesday started to derail. But for now Wednesday must look for Carvalhal’s replacement while he gets on with the job of trying to stop Swansea joining the Owls in the Championship next season.
