Birmingham City make approach for Nigerian international

Birmingham City have made an enquiry to sign Anorthosis Famagusta’s Shehu Abdullahi according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The Blues have had a nightmarish first half to the season. Despite this year being one of their most promising in years considering all the money that was invested into the side, they have really struggled and are currently at the bottom of the Sky Bet Championship. But despite their recent problems, head coach Steve Cotterill is being trusted to spend money in the January transfer window to try and turn things around at St Andrews.

And one of the players Cotterill is looking to sign is Abdullahi who is currently plying his trade in Cyprus for Anorthosis Famagusta. He has been impressive in the Cypriot First Division for them but has always been great on the international scene, with the 24-year-old defender being crucial to Nigeria qualifying for next year’s World Cup in Russia. But in order to secure his place there he may need to play in a league with a better reputation and a move to Birmingham may help him.

But while the Blues have enquired about Abdullahi and could end up costing them £500K, there are other teams said to be interested in making a move for him. Both Freiburg in Germany and Trabzonspor in Turkey are also considering making a move for the defender and could be fierce competition for Birmingham. But the Blues do have some money to spend and could potentially outbid them should it come to that.
