Sheffield United and QPR are eyeing up moves for Peterborough United star

Sheffield United and QPR are both interested in a move for Peterborough United winger Gwion Edwards in January, according to HITC Sport.

Edwards has been one of Peterborough’s standout players in League One this season. His 6 goals and 5 assists has left Championship duo Sheffield United and QPR interested in a January swoop.

Edwards, who was born in Lampeter in Wales, had spells at Aberystwyth Town and Cardiff City as a youngster before being signed by Swansea City in 2007. However, despite signing a three-year deal in 2011, Edwards never played a senior game for the Swans but was a key player for their reserves.

He got his first taste of first-team senior football on loan at Scottish Premier League side St Johnstone in January 2013. He then joined them on loan for another season in 2013/14 and played for them in the Europa League.

He then returned to Swansea but was sent out on loan to Crawley Town in March 2014 and he impressed for them and signed on a permanent deal in July 2014 at the expiry of his loan.

Edwards scored 13 goals in his two seasons with Crawley, one of which they were relegated to League One in. Peterborough United swooped for him in the summer of 2016 and he has been there ever since.

Despite having never played in the Championship before, Sheffield United and QPR may still come calling for Edwards. Peterborough are known for being a stepping stone for some very good players who have gone onto play at a higher level, this could be the case for Edwards.
