PREVIEW: Valiants travel to Colchester

Relegation threatened Port Vale travel to Colechester this weekend looking to continue their rise under Neil Aspin.

The Valients are situated just outside the bottom two, just four points away from Chesterfield who currently occupy 23rd spot. Their hosts Colchester United  will be looking to bounce back into the play-offs. Currently sat in 8th place and only outside the play-off places on goal difference.

The home side are in excellent form going into the clash. Six points from their last nine would suggest so. Victories against fellow promotion hopefuls Exeter and Swindon will give the U’s confident against Port Vale.

A 3-2 away victory against Swindon pushed the Essex-side back into the play-off positions but have since dropped back into 8th after both Coventry City and Lincoln City were able to climb above them.

Goals from Frankie Kent, Mikael Mandron and in-form midfielder Sammie Szmodics won the points for John McGreal’s men.

Port Vale have been a real force under new manager Neil Aspin, who took over the side back in October. The Valients also have collected six points from nine.

Impressive wins against Cambridge United and Carlisle United have created a gap between themselves and the bottom two.

A victory against last seasons play-off semi finalists Carlisle was capped by goals from Tyrone Barnett and captain Tom Pope.

The last time these two met at the Colechester Community Stadium ended in a 2-1 victory to the home side with Colin Daniel’s goal only a consolation for the away side. George Elokoni and Marvin Sordell netted for the U’s to end a run of three straight defeats.
