PREVIEW: Stanley looking to climb back into the automatics

Accrington Stanley will be looking to fire themselves back into the automatic promotion places as they take on Harry Kewell’s Crawley this weekend.

The hosts, who are still a game behind following the postponement of their recent game with Swindon Town, sit in 5th in SkyBet League Two, just two points behind Exeter City who occupy 3rd spot.

Crawley will be anxiously looking over their shoulders as they currently sit in 17th position, just four points ahead of Chesterfield and Forest Green Rovers in the relegation zone.

John Coleman’s side come into the clash having just won three points from their last three games. A crucial win over fellow play-off chasers Wycombe Wanderers. Mark Hughes’ second half goal separating the two teams that night.

However, Stanley were not so fortunate last time around, losing to Lincoln City in SkyBet League Two. A controversial penalty tucked away from Matt Green and another goal for big-man Matt Rhead gave Danny Cowley’s side all the points.

However, Accrington will be able to re-call on loan Derby defender Farrend Rawson following his red card against the Imps. The side from the North-West appealed the decision, making the defender available for the clash on Saturday.

Despite their league position, it is Crawley who head into the game in slightly better form than their opponents. Accumulating four points from their last nine, including a very solid win against Mansfield Town. Joe McNerney and Ibrahim Meite secured the points for Kewell’s men as the Stags deflated.

Their last trip would not live in the memory with a 3-0 thumping at the hands of fellow strugglers Crewe Alexandra caused the Reds to slip further into trouble.

Chris Dagnall and Callum Ainley did the damage at Gresty Road, making their trip to Stanley ever-more important in order to create a bigger gap between themselves and the bottom two.
