PREVIEW: Carlisle make the long trip to face new boys

Carlisle United will make the long trip down south to face rock bottom club Forest Green Rovers this Saturday.

Carlisle, who finished in a play-off spot last season, have had a much slower start to this campaign. Languishing down in 14th place, 7 places behind the play-off places.

Forest Green however sit rock bottom of the Football League having struggled to adapt to the division. This is the Gloucestershire’s first season in the division since their formation over 100 years ago.

The hosts have only managed to pick up a solitary point in their last three games. This point coming against fellow Gloucestershire side Cheltenham Town at the New Lawn. Christian Doidge’s early striker was cancelled out in the second half by Robins striker Mohamed Eisa.

It’s not all doom and gloom for Rovers though, as they possess one of the most lethal strikers in the division. Doidge sits on 15 goals after 22 games, with interest looming from several other clubs.

Carlisle’s current form is not much better than their opponents, having picked up just two points from the last nine on offer. Keith Curle’s men last point coming against Newport County in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Rodney Parade.

The Cumbrians will take confidence from their FA Cup run though. They managed to get into the third round at the expense of League One side Gillingham.

Curle’s men were able to get themselves a replay in which they dispatched of the Gills 3-1 at Brunton Park with a brace from former Everton man Hallam Hope and a late goal from Shaun Miller.
