Leeds United manager swerves key question on Premier League target

It is already on record from Leeds United that the club don’t expect as spectacular a winter transfer window in January as the fans saw during the July/August summer window. However, names continue to be linked.

Players such as Spanish forward Alfredo Ortuno and young Everton defender Matthew Pennington continue to be linked to the Whites. But, according to sources such as the Express, Leeds United could be eyeing the red part of Merseyside.

Earlier this week the Derby Telegraph said that Leeds were looking to bring in Wales and Liverpool striker Ben Woodburn on loan. This rumour was given more credence when Ladbrokes said that the Whites are “frontrunners” for the young Chester-born starlet,

However, according to the Express, United boss Thomas Christiansen remained more than a little coy when the topic was raised in today’s press conference ahead of the match against Hull City tomorrow afternoon.

Responding to a question about the Woodburn interest, Christiansen remained coy o the point of non-committal on the topic. When asked the Leeds boss said, “I will pass your question to Victor [Orta – Director of Football].

Leeds fans will know the young Chester-born forward well, he scored against them last season in the League Cup, in doing so eclipsing Michael Owen’s record as Liverpool’s youngest goalscorer.

The versatile forward, who was on the Reds bench for the 3-0 Anfield victory over Huddersfield Town in late October, has played 45 minutes in the first team – a 2-0 defeat against Leicester in the Carabao Cup.

He has also captained the Merseyside club’s youth side in six UEFA Youth League appearances, scoring in the 3-0 victory over NK Maribor and providing an assist in the 4-0 victory over Sevilla. On top of this Woodburn has turned out for the Liverpool Under-23 side, scoring against both Chelsea and Sunderland’s Under-23 outfits.
