Exiles, Cowley relishing tough trip to Wales

Cowley relishing tough trip to Wales

Danny Cowley is relishing the task of facing Newport County this weekend as the pair clash at Rodney Parade.

Newport are one of the several chasing pack, currently sat in ninth in SkyBet League Two. A win against Danny Cowley’s Imps would see them rise above them in the standings.

The Welsh club stayed in the division by the skin of their teeth last season, a last minute winner from Mark O’Brien secured their place in the division at the expensive of Hartlepool United.

Michael Flynn’s side have vastly improved this season, with the Exiles being one of many teams pushing for a play-off spot come May.

Speaking in his press conference earlier, Cowley stated how tough of a challenge it will be to come away from Rodney Parade:

“It’ll be a tough test. They’re a good team, they’ve had a good start to the season. They’ve got fantastic delivery into the box.

“They’ve got a really nicely balanced blend to their team.”

The Imps currently sit in the top seven, having won their last four league games and go into the clash as the form team in the division.

The Imps, who are back in the Football League for the first time in six years, are looking to put themselves further into the play-off pictures with what would be a stunning victory at Newport:

“You can see why they’ve been as successful as they have thus far.

“We need to keep focused on the here and now, keep focused on prepping correctly.”

The Imps will travel down to South-Wales on Friday before stopping off at Aston Villa’s Bodymoor Heath for a training session. Cowley believes it is vital for his younger players to train at such venues to further their ambition:

“It’s great to train at these different places. It shows what’s on offer to our younger players that if they keep working hard and improving.”
