Former Arsenal and England defender Sol Campbell has admitted that he would like to return to former club Portsmouth in a coaching capacity in the near future according to the Portsmouth News.
The 43-year-old Plaistow born twice-crowned English Premier League title winner has been out of the English game since hanging up his boots in May 2012.
Campbell has most recently been working as the assistant manager of the Trinidad and Tobago national team however the former centre-back has admitted that he would love to return to former club Portsmouth in a coaching capacity after attending Pompey’s 1-0 victory over Bury at Fratton Park on Saturday.
The former defender spent three seasons with Portsmouth between 2006 and 2009 and Campbell made 111 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring two goals. The player was an FA Cup winner with Pompey in 2007/2008 and Campbell stayed with the club the following season despite their off-field troubles.
Campbell first made his name with Tottenham Hotspur for whom he made 315 appearances in which he scored 15 goals. In summer 2001, the player angered Spurs fans by joining local rivals Arsenal and Campbell went on to play an instrumental role for The Gunners.
The East Londoner’s experience at both club level and international level could be a real benefit to former club Portsmouth should Campbell be offered the opportunity to help out on the Pompey training pitch in the coming months.
