Leeds United were flying high earlier this season when they faced Newport County in the Carabao Cup away at Elland Road.
The draw, back in late August, saw Leeds drawn away but the game having to be played at Elland Road due to the situation regarding Newport’s pitch. Now art imitating life has seen the Whites drawn out of the hat again to face the Welsh side.
Last time out, in the Carabao Cuo tie, it was all honours to Leeds and plaudits to Kemar Roofe as the Whites overcame an early goal from Joss Labadie (33′) to romp to a 5-1 win with a hat-trick from Kemar Roofe (44′, 49′ and 65′) and a goal apiece from Samu Saiz (78′) and Ronaldo Vieira (89′).
Carabao Cup: Leeds 5 – 1 Newport County
Leeds now face Newport in a ‘reverse fixture’ with the Whites travelling to Wales in early January to take on a side that they have already handily despatched in one cup competition this season.
Newport sit in ninth place in the Sky Bet League Two table with eight wins, six losses and six draws from their opening 20 games. Two divisions above, Leeds sit in eighth position in the Championship with nine wins, eight losses and three draws from their 20 games.
The Whites will fancy their chances of a similar result to the August Carabao Cup tie, and will travel to the Principality full of hope that they can return with a win.

With Leeds United going out to non-league Sutton United last season, and Histon a few seasons before that, there is a creeping sense of uneasiness in certain areas of the Whites camp. Saying that, history rarely repeats itself that often in succession – but the magic of the FA Cup is something else altogether.
