Derby County linked with Manchester City starlet

Sky Bet Championship side Derby County have been linked with a January transfer move for Lukas Nmecha, according to the Sun.

Nmecha joined the Manchester City academy as a nine-year-old but has been training with the first team on a regular basis. As well as representing the Blues at youth level he has featured in the England development ranks, scoring the winning goal in the Under-19 European Championships this summer, but Manchester City may choose to grant the youngster regular playing time with a temporary loan move or on a permanent basis.

The Rams face fierce competition to sign the Manchester City striker, with the Blues’ Premier League rivals Everton also keen to sign the 18-year-old.

Everton would look to buy the City starlet as an option for the future, with the Toffees likely to complete the signing as early as the January transfer window or, if not then, the summer window as Director Football Steve Walsh is understood to have already begun negotiations with the Premier League giants.

The Toffees recently appointed Sam Allardyce as their new manager and his first game in charge saw the Merseysiders win 2-0 over Huddersfield Town, however the former England boss will be looking to make additions to his first-team in order to boost his chances of survival.

While Allardyce will be focusing on first team matters, Steve Walsh will continue to search for future stars as he did in the summer when they signed Lewis Gibson and Dennis Adeniran.

Derby are also keen on signing Nmecha, but the opportunity of staying in the Premier League gives Everton a slight advantage.
