Championship clubs keeping tabs on Aston Villa striker

A number of Championship clubs are interested in a loan move for Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack in January, according to the Daily Mail.

The forward has caught the eye of some of Villa’s Championship rivals during his loan spell with Australian side Melbourne City. He has scored five goals in seven games under the management of former Wigan Athletic boss Warren Joyce but his loan ends on 26th January, which has prompted some clubs to weigh up a loan move.

Although the various Championship clubs who are said to be interested in him are unnamed at this stage, there is no surprise that McCormack is on some team’s radar after his great form in Australia.

McCormack started his career with Rangers before he moved to England (or Wales shall we say) with Cardiff City in 2008. He was prolific for the Bluebirds in his first season, when he scored 23 goals but the season after his goals dried up.

He was allowed to join Leeds United in 2010 and he stayed with the Whites for four seasons. He scored 58 goals in 158 games and was snapped up by Fulham in 2014 for £11 million. He was again prolific at Championship level, scoring 19 and 23 goals respectively in his two seasons with the Cottagers.

Villa forked out £12 million for him in the summer of 2016 but his move has flopped. He has only scored three goals for them and was shipped out on loan to Nottingham Forest and then Melbourne City this year. McCormack has proven he is a goal scorer at Championship level, you just feel he needs to find a new permanent home.
