Bristol Rovers can’t give anymore as poor form continues

Bristol Rovers head coach Darrell Clarke has told the Bristol Post that his team cannot give anymore after their poor form continued with a 1-0 loss to Scunthorpe United.

The Gasheads have been struggling in recent weeks having only picked up one win in six games and they were hopeful they would be able to get a win in Lincolnshire as they travelled north to face Scunthorpe. But it was not to be. Even though the game was finely poised at 0-0 until the very end, Rovers suffered a cruel blow when Neal Bishop headed the ball into the net in the 94th minute.

This continued Bristol Rovers poor form has seen them drop to 15th in the Sky Bet League One table with them being just six points above 21st placed Gillingham. But while fans are becoming more frustrated as they drop down the league, Clarke has insisted that his players are giving it their all to turn things around.

He said: “Unfortunately, I’m not Houdini.”

“I can’t give any more than I give. Is the squad underperforming? Yeah, I think it is. Are we slightly underachieving? Yeah, probably by about a couple of places in the league to where we are budget wise. It’s about trying to build things.”

“Sometimes you get runs like this at football clubs,”

“Sometimes it’s the law of averages. We’ll let the people who want to be negative, be negative – 95 per cent of our support base are fantastic. They’re really pleased with where we are at the minute and they’re realistic with where we are infrastructure wise as a football club. We want to push on.”
