MATCH REPORT: Leeds United 1-2 Sheffield United

Youngster David Brooks came off the bench to send Sheffield United to the top of the Championship as he scored the winner for Sheffield United late on. But what exactly happened during in the game?

The match couldn’t have started any worse from a Leeds United perspective. After Sheffield United won a throw-in down by the corner flag the ball got played into Leon Clarke who held the ball up and laid it off to Mark Duffy. Duffy then played a looping cross into Billy Sharp who peeled around the back of Matthew Pennington with ease and cooly nodded it past Andy Lonergan.

After Samu Saiz launched the ball into the box, Lassoga forced a poor clearance from the Sheffield United defender, which fell kindly to Kalvin Phillips who smashed an excellent volley home to make it 1-1 just past the half-hour mark.

On 62 minutes Leeds United goalscorer, Kalvin Phillips, made a shocking two-footed tackle on George Baldock. Somehow he got away with just a yellow card but you can tell from his reaction after the tackle even he knew he should’ve seen red.

15 minutes to go and Sheffield United scorer, Billy Sharp, got taken off for youngster David Brooks who couldn’t have even dreamed about what would happen after he came on.

With nine minutes to go, Duffy’s pass carved open the Leeds United defence and found the run of David Brooks. Brooks beat the offside trap, latched onto Mark Duffy’s through ball and slotted home into the bottom right-hand corner past Andy Lonergan to put the Blades 2-1 up in the derby and ultimately win the match for the South Yorkshire club. The win sent Sheffield United up to the top of the Championship for the first time in 12 years!
