5 former Championship players who have made strange career moves abroad

It has always been rare for English players to move to clubs abroad but in recent years this has become more common. Here are 5 players you may not know now play abroad-

Nick Blackman- The former Reading and Derby County striker now plays in Israel for Maccabi Tel-Aviv on loan. The 27 year-old, born in Salford, joined Derby in January 2016 but has found it hard to hit form for the Rams so has moved to Israel to try and rekindle his career.

Tom Thorpe- The former Manchester United, Birmingham City, Rotherham and Bolton midfielder joined Indian side ATK in the summer. They are managed by Teddy Sheringham and also have former Coventry midfielders Carl Baker and Connor Thomas playing for them. They play in a stadium that has a capacity of around 85,000.

Matt Derbyshire- The experienced striker plays for Omonia Nicosia in Cyprus. He has played for Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham, Nottingham Forest, Blackpool and Rotherham in the past.

Jay Bothroyd- The striker has made a single cap for England and now plays for Japanese side Consadole Sapporo. He played for Charlton, Wolves, Stoke, QPR, Cardiff and Sheffield Wednesday in England before moving onto Muanthong United in 2014 before a move to Jubilo Iwata.

Ravel Morrison- The 24 year-old midfielder formerly of Manchester United, West Ham, Birmingham, QPR and Cardiff is currently playing for Mexican side Atlas on loan from Lazio. He spent the latter part of last season on loan with QPR but has decided to move to Mexico as his next career path.
