Former Leeds United and PNE star under pressure after five-goal mauling

The pressure is rising on former Leeds United and Preston North End striker David Healy after his Linfield side lost 5-2 at home to Crusaders in the Irish Premiership on Monday evening.

The 38-year-old all-time Northern Ireland top goalscorer won a domestic treble with The Blues last season as his side won the league title, Irish Cup and County Antrim Shield but Healy is enduring a more difficult campaign at Windsor Park this time around.

On Monday evening, his third-placed side took on Crusaders on home soil looking to close the gap on league leaders Coleraine to seven points however it turned out to be an evening to forget for Healy and his troops as Linfield fell to an embarrassing 5-2 defeat in front of the live television cameras.

The result sees the club remain 10 points adrift of top spot after 11 matches while Linfield find themselves sitting outside of the European qualification places.

Linfield is Healy’s first managerial job since ending his playing career in England. The former striker is best known for his goalscoring exploits at Preston North End where he bagged 45 goals in 156 games while the player also netted 31 goals for Leeds United during almost three years at Elland Road.

Healy is a Linfield supporter with the former Manchester United apprentice having followed the club all of his life.
