Sheffield Wednesday could sell star striker for £6 million in January

Premier League sides Brighton, Crystal Palace and West Brom are all interested in a January move for Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Hooper, as per a report by the Express.

Sheffield Wednesday would apparently be willing to sell him for £6 million. He has been in fine form for the Owls this season, scoring 7 goals. He is the joint Championship top scorer.

The 29 year-old started his career with Grays Athletic before moving to Southend United. He joined Scunthorpe United in 2008 and made his name in the Football League, scoring 43 goals in 2 seasons. His form earned him a move to Scottish giants Celtic in 2010. He spent 3 seasons with Celtic and scored 63 goals in 95 games.

A move to Norwich City followed in 2013 for around £5 million. He scored 18 goals in 2 seasons with the Canaries before moving to Sheffield Wednesday, initially on loan, in 2015.

Hooper has played a key part in the Owls’s last 2 seasons, where they have reached the Play-Offs twice. Their fans were hoping it would be third time lucky this season, however they have started slowly. Nevertheless, their 3-0 win  last time out over Leeds could spark an upturn in form.

Hooper has no doubt been one of the best goal scorers in the Football League over the past decade. He was not very prolific for Norwich in the Premier League but it would be interesting to see how he would fare if he signed for Brighton, Palace or West Brom, which would be a real possibility if he maintains his great goal scoring form.
