Blackman, Derby County striker says more players should play abroad

Derby County striker says more players should play abroad

Derby County’s Nick Blackman has said on a YouTube video that more English players should leave the country and play abroad.

Blackman signed for Derby at the start of 2016 but has struggled for both form and first team appearances while at the iPro Stadium. It was deemed this summer that this would continue so he would be loaned out and while most players of this sort would end up heading to another Sky Bet Championship side, Blackman ended up going further than expected and signing on loan for Israeli side Maccabai Tel Aviv.

He has made a good impression since heading there as well, scoring twice in six appearances. Because of this, Blackman has urged players in a similar position to him to take a risk and move abroad. He has said that opening themselves up for another way of thinking about football will improve many young players and make themselves more valuable should they return to England.

He said: “I think going at a young age will be even more beneficial for them, it’s a really different way of thinking.”

“Sometimes in England you can get bogged down in one way of thinking, but there’s a whole world out there, so go and explore it!”

“I want to come here and play as many games as I can, score goals and enjoy my football.”

“We want qualify through the group in the Europa league, so that’s a big aim for the team.”

“The team hasn’t won the Israeli Premier League for the last two seasons so we are really going for that this year.”

“It would be fantastic to come out here and help Maccabi be on top of the league again, which is where they deserve to be”.
