Josh Onomah has told the London Evening Standard that his loan move to Aston Villa has improved the standard of his England performances.
Onomah is contracted to Tottenham Hotspur and has been tipped for big things there. However as he would struggle to break into their first team, he elected to move away on loan and found himself signing for Aston Villa. And while the Villains are yet to get going this season, leading head coach Steve Bruce to be put under pressure, Onomah has been in good form having scored twice in five appearances for them.
He has carried this form into the international break as well, with Onomah netting an impressive volley in the England U21s 3-1 win over Scotland. And after the match, the youngster has said that it is his time with Aston Villa which caused his improvement in performances for the national side and that more time at Villa Park will make him better.
He said: “Going to Villa is making a huge impact on my performance when I’m with my country.”
“We can go further (than past Under-21 teams). There are a huge lot of players who are playing well for their clubs and country. I won the Euros at Under-17s level and the World Cup at Under-20s. With that experience I feel we can push on for the Under-21s in two years.”
“I have been with these boys since Under-16s. I feel like we have grown and learned from each other. We are getting better all the time and the next goal is to win Euros.”
