OPINION: Can Cardiff City mount a serious challenge for the Championship title?

Cardiff City have made a great start to the Championship season under Neil Warnock. They are currently top of the league after 12 games. We take a look at their squad and whether they are capable of maintaining their great form for the rest of the season-

In goal, Cardiff have Neil Etheridge. He is a Pilipino international who joined from Walsall in the summer. He is a very talented goalkeeper and the Bluebirds have experienced shot stopper Lee Camp as a backup. This shows they have depth in this position.

In the full-back positions, Cardiff have the likes of Lee Peltier, Ashley Richards, Joe Bennett, Callum Paterson and the versatile Greg Halford. Apart from Paterson who is playing his first season in England, these are all experienced Championship defenders. In the centre of defence, the Bluebirds have Sean Morrison, Bruno Ecuele Manga, Sol Bamba and Matthew Connolly to choose from. All of whom are vastly experienced players and good characters to have in the dressing room.

In midfield, Warnock has a huge pool of players to pick from. Craig Bryson, Aron Gunnarson, Joe Ralls, and Loic Damour in the centre and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Liam Feeney, Anthony Pilkington and Lee Tomlin show they have depth in the attacking midfield and wing options.

Up top, Cardiff have goals in them. Kenneth Zohore and Danny Ward have both got goals in them. There is also depth in this position with the likes of Omar Bogle, Frederic Gounongbe and Rhys Healey on the fringes of the first team.

Therefore, I believe Cardiff can push for the title this season. They have a very talented squad and can go under the radar this season. Keeping Zohore and Mendez-Laing fit will certainly help with their push for promotion.
