Bristol City boss reveals Sheffield Wednesday midfielder is one of his dream signings

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has revealed some of his dream signings for the club in January in a recent interview, as per a report by the Bristol Post.

A supporter asked Johnson the question of who would be his dream signings in January and he particularly singled out Sheffield Wednesday star Barry Bannan in his interview. The Robins need another central midfielder after Gary O’Neil has been ruled out with a long-term injury.

When asked the question, Johnson replied “Probably someone who can unlock a door,” “Someone like Barry Bannan. Just as somebody who has got that old-school vision.” Johnson is obviously a big fan of the Scotland international. However, the Owls man will be very hard to prize away from the Yorkshire club though. Hull City and Birmingham both apparently saw bids rejected for him in the summer.

Bannan, who is 27 years-old, joined Aston Villa as a youngster from Celtic. He joined Sheffield Wednesday in 2015 from Crystal Palace and has stood out for the Owls ever since. He has made 24 caps for Scotland.

Johnson also singled out Preston North End duo Ben Pearson and Daniel Johnson as two other dream signings in January. This shows that Bristol City do have a bit of ambition. They have made a great start to the Championship season and are currently 4th in the table. This has been helped by the form of Bobby Reid, who is the joint-top scorer in the league on 7 goals with Gary Hooper and Jarrod Bowen.
