Deepdale point can be a catalyst for Sunderland revival

Struggling Sunderland can take hope from the point which they earned against Preston North End at Deepdale on Saturday afternoon.

The Black Cats are currently second bottom of the Sky Bet Championship table after winning just once in the opening weeks of the new season.

They travelled to Deepdale to face an in-form Preston North End side which had conceded just four goals in 10 league outings on Saturday and Simon Grayson’s side put on a spirited performance to come away with an unexpected point after recording a 2-2 draw.

George Honeyman gave The Black Cats the lead before goals from Josh Harrop and Jordan Hugill turned the match on its head. Sunderland were not defeated though and Aiden McGeady produced a stunning strike to level the scores to ensure that his side returned to Wearside with a point.

Sunderland recorded more shots on goal and on target against The Lilywhites in what was one of their better performances of the season so far and the club can use the result as a springboard to improve their form in the coming weeks.

There is no doubting the fact that The Black Cats find themselves desperately short of confidence on the pitch and investment off it but manager Grayson has enough quality in his squad to ensure at least survival and Sunderland should not be written off just yet with plenty to play for in the Sky Bet Championship.
