MATCH PREVIEW: Cardiff City vs Leeds United

Two of the seasons early pace-setters face each other on Tuesday night, as Leeds United travel to Cardiff City, a game live on Sky Sports at 7.45pm.

Just goal difference splits the two sides this season, with both sitting pretty on 20 points. Leeds currently lead the way with their far superior goal difference of +12 in comparison to Cardiff’s +7.

FORM

After a minor blip following the international break, Cardiff got back to winning ways on Saturday with a 2-1 win away at Sunderland. A late Danny Ward equaliser salvaged a point against Sheffield Wednesday in their previous home game, which followed a 3-0 defeat at Preston and a 1-1 draw at Fulham. The Bluebirds won their first five games in the league, meaning their season started off in the best possible fashion.

Leeds have responded perfectly after suffering their first defeat away at Millwall a week and a half ago. United were triumphant on penalties in the Carabao Cup at Burnley and defeated Ipswich 3-2 at Elland Road on Saturday. The Whites won their first three league away games, at Bolton (3-2), Nottingham Forest (2-0) and Sunderland (2-0) and will be looking to return to winning ways on the road tomorrow night.

TEAM NEWS

Cardiff centre back Sol Bamba is set to return to face his former club, after being rested for the weekend win at Sunderland. Another former Leeds defender Lee Peltier should be fit enough to overcome a minor knock and winger Junior Hoillet may start, he’s another player who was rested at the weekend.

Leeds defender Pontus Jansson could return to the starting XI, after recovering from a minor hamstring strain which he picked up at Millwall. Once again, the only absentee is striker Caleb Ekuban who is still recovering from surgery on a broken ankle. Mateusz Klich, Gaetano Berardi, Stuart Dallas and Kemar Roofe are all pushing to start. HEAD TO HEAD

Leeds and Cardiff have faced each other 56 times since their first meeting back in 1921. Cardiff have the better record, winning 26 times in comparison to 17 Leeds victories. The Bluebirds won the last meeting 2-0 at Elland Road in February, but Leeds have won the last two meetings at the Cardiff City ground, also by two goals nil. (11v11)

PREDICTION

I think Leeds United will just about edge tomorrow’s clash. The creative players of Leeds United, as well as the inform Pierre Michel Lasogga will cause the Cardiff defence massive headaches. The return of Pontus Jansson is also a massive boost for the Whites.
