Odds shorten on Forest Under-23 head coach returning to Spireites

Nottingham Forest Under-23 coach Jack Lester is the clear favourite for the managerial vacancy at Sky Bet League Two strugglers Chesterfield according to the latest odds from English Football League sponsors Sky Bet.

The Spireites are searching for a new manager after sacking former boss Gary Caldwell last weekend with the club embroiled in a relegation battle following a poor start to the season.

Highly rated Forest academy coach Lester was strongly linked with a return to the club where he scored 92 goals in 219 appearances to take up the vacant managerial position. Former Bolton Wanderers striker Kevin Davies did overtake the 41-year-old in the betting for the job however Lester has again become the odds-on favourite for the role.

Lester spent six years with Chesterfield in which he won promotion from Sky Bet League Two while he was also a Football League Trophy winner with The Spireites. In his first season with the club, a goal return of 25 in 38 matches in all competitions earned the player the PFA Fan’s Player of the Year award.

Since hanging up his boots in 2014, Lester has been working within the Forest academy system and the former striker has helped a number of youngsters make the step up to senior football at The City Ground.
