Sunderland in competition with Everton to sign talented Swedish goalkeeper

Sunderland are in a battle with Everton to sign Goteburg’s Pontus Dahlberg according to a report from Swedish publication Fotball Skanalen.

The 18-year-old goalkeeper has been getting rave reviews in Scandinavia and some have tipped him to be a future number one for his country. He has already been noticed by top teams in his county after Goteburg signed him up from his hometown club Alvangens IK when it became apparent how talented he was. And despite being so young, he has already claimed the number one spot for the team and has been able to keep four clean sheets for them this season.

This has been noticed over in the UK as both Sunderland and Everton are very interested in signing him. While it’s unlikely that Dahlberg would be the number one for either of these sides, both the Black Cats and the Toffees invested heavily in their goalkeeping department during the summer, it would be seen as a great opportunity to make it in England. Both teams have good records of bringing through youngsters and Dahlberg could become a star for either of them should he decide to leave Sweden for them.

Sunderland may look to use the fact they are in a lower league that Everton to their advantage however. It’s likely that Dahlberg would have an easier time to the number one spot should he head to the Stadium of Light and that might be enough to make sure he is in between the sticks at Wearside rather than in Merseyside.
