Curtis Davies reflects on getting enough rest to play football after becoming father again

Derby County’s Curtis Davies has told the Derby Telegraph that he is looking to get a good night’s rest in a hotel after he became a father again.

Shortly after Davies scored his first goal for Derby, notably against his former team Hull City, he became a father again after his wife gave birth to a little girl. And as you’d expect with a new-born baby in the house, nights aren’t just for sleeping as she cries for her nightly feeds, waking up the weary parents on a regular basis.

Of course if you thought it was tricky to go to the office shortly after the birth of a child with all the nightly feeds you need to do, it’s rather tough to play football at a high level on very little sleep. And so while Davies loves the fact he has a new little girl in his life, he is quite relieved he will get to sleep in a hotel before their match with Bristol City as it means he can get a full night’s rest!

He said: “It’s been a good week, even though I’ve not really had much sleep!”

“It’s alright, really – you’ve just got to get used to it.”

“My eldest daughter is nearly nine now, so it’s a long time ago since I’ve had to do night feeds and heard a baby crying in the house.”

“But I’m delighted to hear it – I just can’t wait until she gets a bit bigger so that she sleeps through!”

“It’s a case of balancing things around the days when you’ve got games,”

“Luckily we’re in a hotel tonight (Friday), so I’ll be able to get some rest – so obviously my wife will take on a great responsibility on those occasions.”

“But I like to do my bit and I want to be a hands-on father – and that’s how I was before.”
