Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has heaped praise on new signing Clayton Donaldson, as per an article by the Yorkshire Post.
Donaldson joined on deadline day from Championship rivals Birmingham City on a free transfer. The 33 year-old striker has made an immediate impact for the Blades, scoring 2 goals on his debut in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Saturday was Sheffield United’s first away win in the Championship for 6 years. Their boss, Chris Wilder, was full of praise for new boy Donaldson. He said “Its a great day for Clayton and a fantastic day for our football club”. He later added “I’ve nearly signed him eight times, mugged me off every time”. It was on deadline day when Wilder finally got his man.
Donaldson started his career with Hull City but never broke into the first-team and moved onto York City in 2005. After a prolific spell at York, where Donaldson scored 41 goals in two seasons, he moved to Scotland to join Hibernian. He scored 5 goals in his one season in Scotland and consequently moved back to England to join Crewe Alexandra.
Donaldson spent 3 years at Crewe Alexandra and scored 41 goals in 117 appearances. Brentford came calling and Donaldson went on to help the Bees gain promotion to the Championship. He moved to Birmingham City in 2014 and scored 32 goals in 113 games during his time at St. Andrews, but fell down the pecking order under Harry Redknapp.
There is no doubt that Donaldson can be a prolific goal scorer. Chris Wilder and Sheffield United Fans will be hoping that he can get another goal or two against Bolton on Tuesday.
