Leeds United – has secret of “big surprise” Asian transfer been leaked?

Five days ago Leeds United’s Victor Orta did a Facebook Live video, broadcast by the club, where he answered fan questions – one answer being somewhat of a tantalising snippet of a tease.

In the Facebook Q&A session, Victor Orta makes one very clear claim that Leeds United have another signing up their sleeve, with Orta calling it a “big surprise.”

Orta’s reply to the question asked by the Leeds fan is more than clear in what he says with the Spaniard stating: “…perhaps he arrived Pawel Cibicki of Malmö in the Sweden league and we are near to sign a big surprise from Asia.”

Who, or what, this surprise signing is remained to be seen but one of the men in the best position to comment did so, and commented quite clearly as well. It was a mystery at the time but the mists could be clearing on this if this article from Yahoo Japan has any credence.

The article states quite categorically that Leeds United have made a move for four-cap Japan midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi, a 21-year-old who currently turns out for Gamba Osaka in Japan’s top-tier competition the J1 League.

The article says that Ideguchi’s club have “received an official offer” from Leeds and carries a direct quotation from the player himself who says “I want to play in Europe someday…and I have already started studying English conversation.”

However, the article does go on to say that his chances of making the required permit conditions, to enable him to start a career at Leeds, might be a hindrance to an immediate move. It then goes on to say that this could mean a stay in Osaka whilst Leeds look at a “deadline transfer” or that he may end up “playing in another European club.”

Leeds do have a link of sorts with Spanish La Liga 2 side Cultural Leonesa, a link that has seen the Whites pick up ex-Juventus midfielder Ouasim Bouy and loan him out to the Spaniards. Should the Ideguchi article carry water, then a similar deal might be one that the Whites could consider.
