PLAYER RATINGS: Derby County 5-0 Hull City

Matej Vydra and Bradley Johnson both bagged braces, with defender Curtis Davies also heading home, as Derby County ran riot against Hull City at Pride Park in this Championship encounter, winning 5-0 against the Tigers. The visitors were disjointed and put on a terrible show for their travelling support. Meanwhile, the Rams were rampant, making a real statement of intent in front of the Sky cameras. Here is how each player fared this evening…

Derby County

Scott Carson – 7
Made one smart save and commanded his box very well, but didn’t have an awful lot to do. The former England goalkeeper was, however, guilty of a couple of poor goal kicks that went straight out of play. Visibly frustrated at Derby’s late slackness in defence.

Chris Baird – 8
Could have struggled against the pace and skill of Kamil Grosicki, but was excellent throughout. The right-back also got into some decent attacking positions. The Rams didn’t miss the ill Andre Wisdom at all.

Richard Keogh – 9
The Derby captain didn’t put a foot wrong all game, as the Irishman dealt with everything that came his way. Made a couple of crucial tackles in a fantastic performance.

Curtis Davies – 6
Solid for the most part, the centre-back also headed home a Tom Lawrence corner against his former club. Looked shaky towards the end, however, twice giving away the ball in dangerous positions as he tired.

Marcus Olsson – 7
The Swede looked very comfortable defensively, in contrast to many of his previous Rams appearances, whilst posing a constant attacking threat on the left wing.

Tom Huddlestone – 8
Ran the midfield alongside Bradley Johnson against his former employers. Made some delicious passes, as he once again did little wrong for Gary Rowett’s men.

Bradley Johnson – 9
A top, top performance from the midfielder, once of his best in a Derby shirt. Scored twice, once after storming in at the far post, with the second a well-hit effort from just outside the area. If Johnson can play like this more often, Derby’s promotion cause would be greatly helped.

Andreas Weimann – 7
Impressive going forward for the Rams, without ever getting a good enough opportunity to score. Certainly one of his better Derby performances.

Matej Vydra – 9
Vydra played just behind David Nugent in his preferred No. 10 role, and was phenomenal. He scored twice, the first a brilliant free-kick, the second a powerful strike inside the area from Nugent’s lay-off. Hull were simply unable to deal with him.

Tom Lawrence – 8
Looked very lively on his first start for the Rams, constantly getting himself in threatening positions. Dragged down Hull’s Ola Aina to gift the visitors a penalty with the score at 1-0, but fortunately for the Welshman, Seb Larsson fired over from the spot.

David Nugent – 7
Maybe didn’t see as much of the ball as he would have liked, but you couldn’t fault his effort off the ball, and was superb in the build-up to Derby’s second goal.

Sam Winnall – 6
Came on as a substitute, but didn’t have time to influence the game in any way. Possessed great energy and was eager to chase down Hull defenders.

Johnny Russell – 6
Another substitute who did a great deal of running having entered the fray.

Chris Martin – 6
Came on for the final ten minutes, but wasn’t able to have an impact on proceedings.

Hull City

Allan McGregor – 6
Could do little about any of the five goals he conceded, but pulled off a fantastic save at his near post to deny Vydra his hat-trick. Wasn’t helped by his midfield or defenders one bit.

Ola Aina – 6
Looked threatening on occasion for the visitors, and broke into the Rams’ penalty area a number of times, but was unable to provide much of an end product. Won Hull’s penalty, having been hauled back by Lawrence, although Aina also gave away the free-kick that led to Derby’s opener. Arguably Hull’s best player.

Michael Dawson – 4
The experienced centre-back was unable to deal with Derby’s speedy attackers. Looked a step off the pace throughout.

Michael Hector – 4
Disappointing performance from the Chelsea loannee, as him and Dawson just couldn’t contain the Rams. Wasn’t helped by the players in front of him.

Markus Henriksen – 3
Did absolutely nothing to encourage Leonid Slutsky to pick him again tonight. The Norwegian was played off the park by Johnson and Huddlestone, who were just a class above.

Seb Larsson – 3
The game turned on his dreadful penalty miss with Hull just a goal behind. Larsson was poor throughout and never recovered from ballooning his spot-kick over the bar, having been distracted by Scott Carson 12 yards in front of him. Has certainly put in many better performances than this one during his long career in England.

Jarrod Bowen – 5
Was unable to add to his impressive goal tally of four so far this season. Could have scored a consolation goal for the visitors, but was put off by the onrushing Carson in goal. Ran a lot.

Jon Toral – 4
His performance at Pride Park this evening will have done nothing to make Gary Rowett regret failing to capture the Spaniard during the summer. The game appeared to pass him by.

Kamil Grosicki – 5
Looked threatening on occasion, but didn’t unleash his quality to make Derby pay for giving him too much time on the ball. Should have scored with the score at 4-0, but his effort sailed high and wide.

Nouha Dicko – 3
Got himself into potentially dangerous positions, but was completely starved of service. Subbed off towards the end, having made virtually no contribution to the match whatsoever.

Jackson Irvine – 6
Looked calm and composed on the ball, having replaced the ineffectual Toral with 20 minutes remaining to make his Hull debut, but didn’t pose too much of a threat to Derby’s backline.

Adama Diomandé – 6
The Norwegian international headed over with his only real chance of the game, having replaced Dicko upfront.

David Meyler – 6
Went close late on, but the substitute didn’t have time to influence the match.

Derby County’s next match is a trip to fellow Championship outfit Barnsley in the second round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, as Hull travel to Fulham in the league on the same day.
