Leeds United: The Barcelona and Real Madrid connection

Leeds United’s resurgence of late is in no small part down to Victor Orta – who arguably is one of the clubs signings of the summer given his impact on the clubs transfer policies.

Andrea Radrizzani managed to bring the Director of Football to Elland Road after his exit from Middlesbrough and Orta has been a fantastic recruit for the club, with Leeds United signing 16 new players under the guidance of the Spaniard.

Interestingly enough, Leeds United have managed to bring in some incredible cut-price deals with young up-and-coming stars Pawel Cibicki, Jay-Roy Grot and Caleb Ekuban all signing for a combined total of less than £3 million.

Vurnon Anita joined the Whites on a free transfer and the highly talented Samuel Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski both joined the club for a combined total of around £6.1 million which seems a steal when you consider the fact that Leeds United sold striker Chris Wood to Burnley for a fee of around £15 million.

The club’s most impressive low-key recruits seem to be the players who the clubs academy are inheriting. Oriol Rey and Kun Temenuzkhov both signed at Elland Road from Barcelona, Ousama Siddiki signed from Real Madrid, Alejandro Machuca joined from Rayo Vallecano and Bryce Hosannah swapped Premier League Crystal Palace to move to West Yorkshire. Furthermore, Liverpool’s academy product Madger Gomes moved to Elland Road this summer.

Leeds have reportedly got a “surprise” in store from Asia coming up for their fans and all of this incredible business seems to be the start of a golden age era at Elland Road.

Under the guidance of Orta, Leeds United seem to be a formidable force in the transfer market and it makes fans wonder, is the best yet to come?
