Boro rocked by huge injury blow to striker

Middlesbrough’s hopes of gaining automatic promotion back to the English Premier League at the first attempt may be set to be dealt a significant blow with news that striker Rudy Gestede could face months out of action through injury according to the Gazette Live.

The 28-year-old French frontman has featured for Boro on six occasions so far this season and scored the winning goal in the 1-0 home victory over newly promoted club Sheffield United last month.

It has now been reported that Gestede’s hopes of a continued role in the side may have been ended by an injury problem which has sidelined the player in recent days. The nature of the injury is unconfirmed however it is thought that the player may be ruled out of action for a significant period of time.

Gestede joined Boro in January in a reported £6 million deal from Aston Villa however the striker netted just one league goal for the Teessiders as they suffered relegation from the English Premier League.

The player had been linked with a move away from The Riverside Stadium during the summer transfer window however Gestede remained with Boro and the Benin international striker has surprisingly played a key role in the side this season for new boss Garry Monk.
